The community of Semlak (Rom. Semlac, Hung. Szemlak) is situated in the west of Romania, on a hillock above the river Marosch (Rom. Mures, Hung. Maros), 38 km. west of Arad and 14 km east of the national border at Nadlak (Nãdlac).
The neighboring towns are: In the west Scheiding (Seitin); in the north Gross (German) and Klein (Hungarian) Pereg; in the east Pecica/Rovine; in the south, (the Banat), Grossdorf (Satu Mare), Sekeschut (Secusigiu) and Perjamosch (Periam).
The geographic co-ordinates are: 45 degrees, 05 minutes northern latitude and 20 degrees, 54 minutes longitude east of Greenwich. The elevation ranges from 110 to 124 meters above the Adriatic Sea.
